About a month from application to everything being in place and running. The application takes a few minutes; the rest we plan in together.

What do I have to do?

Send us your details, take the call from our adviser, and let us in when it's time to install. Everything in between is ours.

Am I committing to anything when I apply?

No. Applying is free and with no obligation. Nothing happens until you've seen your proposal and said yes.

What does your energy subscription cost?

The price is set individually; a general price list would just be a guess. Your monthly cost is based on our energy analysis of your specific house.

What are the benefits of an energy subscription?

The biggest benefit is that you avoid a large, expensive investment. Putting together an energy package yourself is costly and messy, with quotes to compare from several suppliers. You also avoid swinging electricity bills, and we handle service and maintenance. You get a fixed, favourable monthly price, with fossil-free heat and your own solar power.

It sounds too good to be true. Why don't I need to invest a single krona?

The products are financed through operational leasing. We pay the leasing cost, and it's included in your monthly price. You don't tie up capital or take out a loan.

What happens if my consumption exceeds the household-electricity allowance?

If the household-electricity allowance runs out, you pay cost price for whatever goes over. In other words, we pass the electricity on with no markup.

Is the grid fee included?

No, the grid fee isn't included; you'll keep getting an invoice from your grid owner. The variable part drops considerably with our solution, though, since we install a heat pump, solar panels and a battery.

Does the price change during the contract period?

Yes, once a year the monthly price is adjusted by the consumer price index (CPI). In between it stays put, and it never swings with the spot price or the weather.

How does your energy analysis work?

It's done by our AI model, which builds the best system for your property. The calculation weighs in the microclimate, the condition and size of the house, energy availability and the electricity price. It decides, for example, which heat pump fits and what size of solar array and battery you need.

How much electricity is included?

All electricity for heating (22 degrees) and hot water is included, no matter how much the heat pump actually draws. A long winter means higher consumption, but your monthly cost isn't affected. On top of that, a household-electricity allowance covers your other usage, set from your previous consumption. If you have an electric car, we usually recommend not raising the allowance for it, since the car may not be around for the whole contract period. Talk to an energy advisor about your needs.

Does the heat pump work when it's really cold?

Yes. We size the pump for a Swedish winter and your house. In real cold it works harder and leans on a backup, but you stay warm even at the coldest.

What indoor temperature is included?

Normal heating is included, up to 22 degrees indoors.

Can I choose the heat pump?

We always choose the pump that fits best and has the efficiency your house needs, so the system is as efficient as possible. If you have specific wishes, we try to solve them.

Can I choose the brand and model of the solar panels and battery?

As with the heat pump, we choose the system that fits your property best, so you get the lowest possible monthly price.

How long do a heat pump and solar panels last?

It depends on the make, type, model and how often they're serviced. Generally a heat pump lasts 15 to 20 years and solar panels 25 to 30 years.

What if I already have solar panels or a heat pump?

Then we look at what you have. The subscription needs a modern heat pump, enough solar panels and a large battery. If your equipment meets that, it can be used; otherwise we top it up or replace it. Get in touch and we'll sort out what applies to your house.

How long does the installation take?

We aim to have the whole installation in place within 14 days.

Do you offer subscriptions for flats and housing associations?

We offer energy subscriptions for houses and villas, and for housing associations and the like. We don't offer it for flats yet; register your interest and we'll get in touch if it becomes possible.

Which areas do you cover?

We offer Elvy across all of Sweden.

If something breaks, who is responsible?

Until the contract ends after 15 years, we're responsible for service and maintenance. Damage from, say, negligence or natural events is covered by your home insurance.

How often does service happen?

It varies with your circumstances. Regular service is every other year, unless the system needs it sooner.

Do I need to replace my roof?

As the property owner, you're responsible for the roof being able to take solar panels. If it's old or in poor condition, we recommend replacing it. If you're unsure, have an inspector look it over.

Is a building permit needed for solar panels?

Normally no, but the rules vary between municipalities, and it's your responsibility as the property owner to check. Contact your municipality's building committee. A permit may be required if the property is heritage-listed or lies in a detailed development plan or a protected area.

How long is the contract?

The contract, and with it the commitment period, runs for 15 years. A long period, but it's also what lets us offer you a fixed price with no upfront cost.

What happens when the 15 years are up?

Two options. Either you sign a new contract and get new equipment at a new fixed price for another 15 years, still with nothing upfront and nothing to service. Or you buy the system outright.

What happens if I move?

Three options. (1) The buyers take over the subscription on the same terms and remaining term, for a small administrative fee. (2) You buy out the installation when you leave the property, at the remaining value: the installation's value minus depreciation, plus 20 percent. (3) We remove it for 75 percent of the residual value, and you as the seller cover the labour.

What happens if I pass away?

If the person on the contract passes away during the commitment period, the buyers can take over when the estate sells the property, or the installation is bought out when the property is handed over. Removal is possible if the installation is less than five years old, and the seller then covers the labour.

What happens if we divorce?

If two of you are on the contract, the one moving out can transfer their share to the one staying, or you buy out the whole system.

How do you make money?

We install a whole new energy system and give you a fixed price. In exchange we own the system and the profit it can generate. We buy power to cover your needs and sell the surplus. Some months we're in the red, others in the black. Over 15 years we earn our money back, and you and the environment gain in the meantime.

Our subscription is cheap because, through our infrastructure, we get paid better for electricity trading than you can as a private individual. We procure products and installations at scale, which pushes down prices and financing costs. So we can subsidise your monthly price and still run a profitable business.

What happens if Elvy goes bankrupt?

The system sits on your roof and in your house, and it keeps working whatever happens to Elvy as a company. If we were to disappear you take over the running costs yourself, meaning heating, household electricity and the leasing fee, instead of us doing it. At the same time you get what the system earns, like surplus power that's sold. Service and repairs stay in the leasing agreement and are handled by the leasing company that owns the equipment. The net cost usually lands about where it already is, but with a bit more variation over the year.
